Our History

The beginning

In August 1964, Faith was organized as Faith Missionary Church. Our official charter membership was established that December. Many of the first members were associated with Hope Christian and Missionary Alliance Church on the north side of Indianapolis. From the beginning, the congregation had a high commitment to advancing the spread of the Gospel around the world, thus our middle name, "Missionary."

Various locations served as "home" for the congregation until it settled into an existing church building at 6200 Carrollton Avenue in the Broad Ripple area in Indianapolis on Easter Sunday 1965. Professor Lloyd Perry was an early partner and friend to help lead the congregation. Pastors Fred Evans, Gordon Bell and John Crocker served the church in the early years.

A new location

In 1978, growth necessitated the search for a new location. Property was purchased at 91st Street and College Avenue and new facilities were completed in 1979.

An independent body until the mid-1970s, the church affiliated with the Evangelical Free Church of America, a rapidly growing fellowship of churches with a dynamic national and international outreach. Continued growth in the 1980s under Pastor John Crocker and his successor, Pastor George Kenworthy, brought about multiple services including an off-site location as attendance peaked at 1,350 per Sunday.

More growth, God's calling for change

A dramatic change came in 1991 when a church plant was launched under the leadership of Faith's then youth pastor, Dave Rodriguez. Nearly 500 people from Faith formed Grace Community Church of Noblesville, Indiana, a body of more than 5,000 people now. The 1990s continued to be a time of significant transition as Pastor Brian Boone led the church, and a process was started that led to major upgrades in the building and replacement of the original 1979 sanctuary.

Today

In April 2004, current senior pastor Tom Macy came to Faith. Construction began that summer on a new worship center that was completed and occupied on Easter Sunday 2005. All other facilities were remodeled into a much more user-friendly facility. God has blessed Faith with renewed growth in recent years, with approximately 1,000 people calling Faith their "church home" and the average attendance approaching 700 people each Sunday.
